Things to Bring

  • Insurance Card
  • Patient’s ID card (If the patient is a minor, parent’s or legal guardian’s ID is required)
  • If you use glasses or contact lenses, please bring them for testing. (If you’d like contact lens prescriptions, please bring the contact lens boxes for both eyes)
  • Sunglasses since your eyes will be dilated. (We can also provide you with temporary shades.)
  • Bottles of eye drops you are currently using.
  • List of medications that you are taking.

About dilated eye exam

Regardless of symptoms or age, all new patients will have a dilated eye exam. Dilation allows the doctor to see all parts of the eye to detect diseases such as cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease. Comprehensive eye exam may take up to 2 hours. Please allow ample time for your visit.

Dilation may last from 3 to 6 hours for adults and up to 24 hours for children. You may experience excessive brightness outside and sometimes difficulty with near vision. Most patients experience little difficulty with driving after the exam; however, we recommend that you bring another driver if able. If you choose to drive on your own, please bring your sunglasses for comfort.

  • You can wear contact lenses for the visit. We may ask you to take them off during the exam, but you can put them in again when you are done.
  • If you would like to cancel your appointment, please call us 24 hours in advance. A no-show/late-cancellation fee of $35 may be assessed.
